The College of Liberal Arts has a long history of education, a strong faculty team, fruitful teaching and research achievements, strong comprehensive strength, and a good social reputation. Currently, the college has a master's authorization point in the first-level discipline of Chinese Language and Literature, which includes seven second-level disciplines such as Chinese Linguistics, Literary Theory, Ancient Chinese Literature, Regional Culture and Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Aesthetic Culture and Literature, and Curriculum and Teaching of Chinese Language (Education), as well as one professional master's program in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The college also offers three undergraduate majors, including Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese International Education, and Radio and Television Journalism, among which the major in Chinese Language and Literature is recognized as a Hubei Province brand major and a first-class characteristic discipline construction point by the Ministry of Education. With over 1200 full-time graduate and undergraduate students, the annual employment rate exceeds 95%. The college has cultivated and shaped a large number of teachers, civil servants, journalists, editors, and other professional application-oriented talents with excellent character, solid foundation, and strong capabilities, which have been widely recognized and praised by employers and society.
Adhering to the principle of people-oriented, teaching as the foundation, and research for strengthening, the college continuously improves its educational level and quality, and boasts a highly qualified and well-structured faculty team. There are 64 faculty members, including 12 professors and 20 associate professors. Among them, 31 hold doctoral degrees.
The college has a provincial-level key first-level discipline in Chinese Language and Literature, leading the ranking among provincial universities. Modern Chinese and Ancient Chinese Literature are recognized as Hubei Province's high-quality courses. Since 2015, the faculty has undertaken more than 40 national and provincial educational research projects (including 5 national projects, 6 Ministry of Education projects, 9 provincial social science fund projects, and 22 provincial hall projects), published over 800 research papers (with 81 in CSSCI journals), released more than 40 academic monographs, and received over 30 provincial and municipal teaching and research awards. Additionally, the college has established the Hubei Normal University Language Research Center (a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Hubei Province's colleges and universities), a provincial graduate work station, and a provincial internship and training base, serving as a pilot unit for comprehensive reform of professional education across the province.
The college is well-equipped with teaching facilities, including a resource room, reading room, and online teaching platform, as well as a news studio, recording studio, photography and videography equipment room, language laboratory, electronic reading room, non-linear editing lab, news editing lab, and advertising studio.
