Located in the scenic Qingshan Lake campus, the College of Music was established in 2008. Its predecessor was the Department of Music, which was founded in 2004. The College offers four undergraduate programmes: Musicology (including music education and composition), Music Performance, Dance and Dance performance. The College has been offering master's courses in Curriculum and Pedagogy (Music) and Music Aesthetics since 2012, and the master’s course in Arts since 2015.
The College has six departments, namely, Music Theory, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Voice, Piano, Instrumental Music and Dance. It has a faculty with a complete range of specialties, a reasonable age structure as well as a high level of teaching and research abilities. In recent years, teachers at the College have undertaken and completed various national and provincial research projects, published a number of papers and books.
The College of Music has first-class teaching conditions and environment, with a modern teaching building and a first-class theatre known as the Lotus on the Water. The College has 200 music rooms, over 200 pianos and 6 dance rooms. There are also other teaching facilities including multi-function halls, rehearsal halls, a music literacy lab, a broadcasting lab, a professional recording studio, a MIDI classroom, 4 digital piano classrooms, a computer music classroom, a practice room, a microteaching classroom, and multimedia classrooms.
Adhering to people-oriented and individualized teaching, the College of Music vigorously promotes practice-centered teaching, stressing students' innovation and practical ability. As a result, the teaching quality has been continuously improved. In recent years, our students have won many awards in national and provincial competitions. They have also been invited to participate in various national music and dance performances, through which they have not only been widely acclaimed by the community but also have offered opportunities to enhance their practical skills.
