ALong History of the Running of the School of Marxism. The School of Marxism of Hubei Normal University, formerly known as the Department of Politics founded in 1974, was officially renamed the School of Marxism in 2011 after the Department of Political Education, the Department of Political Science, Law and Economics, and the School of Political Science and Law. In 2018, it was selected as a demonstration ideological and political theory teaching base in Hubei Province, and in 2022, it was approved as a community construction unit for the integration of ideological and political courses in primary and secondary schools of the Ministry of Education. The School of Marxism is a national advanced organization of social sciences, and has won the honorary titles of National University Party Building Model Branch, Provincial Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization, the Advanced Grassroots Education Organization and Red Flag Party Branch in Huangshi City.

Distinctiveness of the Ideological and Political Characteristics of the Party Building of the School of Marxism. The party committee of the School of Marxism insists on putting political construction in the first place, fully implementing the general requirements of party building in the new era, and implementing the main responsibility of governing the party, running schools, and educating people. The School of Marxism adhere to the “Six” ideological and political work concepts of party building as the soul, student-oriented, discipline-oriented, academic-first, scholar-oriented, and academic style as the root. It leads teaching and scientific research with party building work, run through the education work, and draw the “largest concentric circle” between the “model party building” and the “construction of the horse academy”.

Obvious AdvantagesinSpecialty. There are 16 professors, 22 associate professors, and nearly 30 full-time teachers who have obtained doctoral degrees. The School of Marxism consists of the Department of Ideological and Political Education, the Department of Ideological and Political Theory and 7teaching and research office. Besides, it hasa master’s degree program in the first-level discipline of Marxist theory, two second-level master’s programs in curriculum and teaching theory (ideological and political) and school social work, and the discipline of Marxist theory is the dominant and characteristic discipline (cultivation) of the “14th Five-Year Plan” in Hubei Province. In 2020, the ideological and political education major passed the second-level certification of the Ministry of Education for the normal major with high quality. And itis the only unit in Hubei Province that undertakes the training of excellent teachers and students in ideological and political education. Remarkable Achievements in Teaching and Research. In recent years, the School of Marxism has undertaken more than 10 provincial teaching and research projects, provincial education planning projects, and more than 40 scientific research projects at or above the national, provincial and ministerial levels, including 8 projects approved by the National Social Science Fund in the past five years, and nearly 30 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education and provincial social science fund projects. More than 20 monographs and textbooks published in the People’s Publishing House and the Social Sciences Academic Publishing House. In recent years, teachers and students have won nearly 20 awards in teaching competitions and ideological and political teaching exhibitions at or above the provincial level, and 5 people have won the demonstration class of famous teachers in Hubei Province. The School of Marxism has established scientific research platforms such as the Hubei Provincial CPPCC Theory Research Center and the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Red Resources Research Center, and has produced a number of high-quality characteristic research results, which have been reported by the People’s Daily, Learning Power, People’s Daily Online and other media for many times.

Remarkable Achievements in Cultivating Students. The School of Marxism adheres to the concept of “morality first and education-oriented”, complies with the principle of cultivating people with virtue as the central work, and constantly optimizes the education environment and improves the quality of education. The Marxist-Leninist Seminar (the most influential theoretical club for college and secondary school students in China) and the Volunteer Service Group for Loving Children (the “Advanced Collective” of Provincial College Students’ Social Practice Activities) are the brand student organizations of the college, and two of them have been selected as the top 200 national college students of the year. Students have won more than 100 awards in competitions at or above the provincial level, such as the “Challenge Cup”, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and Teacher Skills Competition. In recent years, the School of Marxism has cultivated more than 3,000 equine professionals for the country, most of whom have grown into elite backbones in the province, central China and even the national educational, political and business circles, and many graduates have held leading positions in party and government organs, universities, primary and secondary schools.
