In 2008, the Department of Geographic Sciences was established. On May 7,2013, according to the needs of the construction and the actual development of disciplines and majors,the Party Committee of the University decided to merge the College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (enrollment in 2000) into the College of Geography Science and established the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences. In June 2022, the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences was moved to the Resources and Environment Application Technology Engineering Building. Through connotation construction, characteristic development and transformation development, the college has become a talent training base for geography teaching in Hubei Province, Jingchu ecological civilization construction,  beautiful urban and rural construction. The college has five undergraduate programs, namely Geography science, Human Geography and Urban and rural Planning, Environmental Engineering, Geographic Information Science, Natural Geography and resources and environment. Geography Science and Environmental Engineering are provincial first-class undergraduate programs; there are one first-level disciplines and 4 second-level master disciplines; 201 undergraduate courses and 18 postgraduate courses, forming two resources and environment clusters with complementary advantages of resources and environment in Hubei Province.

The College consists of four departments: Geographical Science, Human Geography and urban and rural Planning, Geographic Information Science and Environmental Engineering. It has established the National Environmental Protection Industrial Pollution Site and Underground Water Restoration Engineering Technology Center (Huangshi Base), Hubei Environmental Soil Sample Preparation and Circulation (Huangshi) Center, Huangshi Soil Pollution Control Technology Center, Hubei Normal University Clean Production Center, and Huangshi Key Laboratory of Soil Pollution Control. The college currently has 1 outstanding young and middle-aged innovation team of Hubei Provincial colleges and universities; It has 41 laboratories, including basic laboratory of physical geography, surface process laboratory, geographic information system laboratory, environmental monitoring laboratory, water pollution control laboratory, air pollution control laboratory, 1 school-level water ecological restoration laboratory, several national and provincial wetland parks field ecological observation stations, and field practice bases in Lushan Mountain, Suzhou, Dabie Mountain and South Taihang. More than 20 university-enterprise cooperation and joint talent training bases have been established with Huangshi Ecological Environment Monitoring Center, Daye Nonferrous Metals Group Holding Co., LTD., Huangshi Huantou Sewage Treatment Co., LTD., and other enterprises and institutions, of which Daye Nonferrous Metals Group Holding Co., Ltd. is a provincial internship and training base.

At present, the college has 51 staff members, 41 full-time teachers, 31 teachers with doctoral degrees, including 18 senior titles and 26 master supervisors; There are 1117 full-time students in the school, including 1060 undergraduates and 57 postgraduate students. In recent years, the college has made remarkable achievements in cultivating applied talents with innovative and entrepreneurial ability. The faculty members have presided over more than 20 projects of the National Nature Fund and completed nearly 200 horizontal projects, with an appropriation of more than 20 million yuan. He has published nearly 300 papers in authoritative journals at home and abroad, of which more than 60 have been indexed by SCI and EI, and 5 academic monographs have been published. In addition, the College actively encourages teachers and students to carry out international academic cooperation and exchanges and social services, using professional expertise and intellectual advantages to serve local economic and social development, and has a good social reputation.
