College of Electrical Engineering and Automation

Brief Introduction of the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Hubei Normal University

The School of Electrical Engineering and Automation is the first All-engineering school directly affiliated with Hubei Normal University. It originated from the Department of Control Science and Engineering established in 2005. In 2010, it was rebranded as the School of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, before being renamed once again as the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation in 2020. In 2023, collaborating with leading enterprises, the establishment of the Intelligent Robotics Industry Academy marked the implementation phase of Hubei Province's Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industry Talent Cultivation Program, specifically focusing on Electrical Engineering and Automation (New Energy Direction) within higher education institutions. The school has a first-class master's degree awarding discipline (Control Science and Engineering), a second-class master's degree awarding discipline (Operations Research and Control Theory), and a professional master's degree awarding discipline (Electronic Information (Control Engineering)). The engineering discipline is the only subject at Hubei Normal University that has entered the top 1% of ESI globally, marking that the engineering discipline has entered the ranks of international high-level disciplines. The school currently consists of three teaching departments: Electrical Engineering, Automation, and Intelligent Engineering, and offers three undergraduate majors: Electrical Engineering and Automation, Automation, and Rail Transit Signal and Control. Among them, Electrical Engineering and Automation as well as Automation are recognized as first-class undergraduate majors in Hubei Province.

The school currently has 50 full-time teachers, including 20 professors and associate professors, 30 doctors (including doctoral candidates), 3 distinguished professors of Chutian Scholars, and over 97% of full-time teachers with master's degrees or higher qualifications. And the school has two research teams in Hubei Province: Key Technology of Networked Control System and Multi-agent system coordination control technology . In recent years, more than 300 high-level papers have been published, of which more than 200 have been indexed by SCI, 15 monographs and textbooks have been published, and more than 100 patents have been granted. Won one-second prize and two third prizes for Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award, one-third prize for Hubei Province Natural Science Award and one-third prize for Shanghai Natural Science Award, Presided over 14 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, and more than 20 provincial fund projects. The horizontal project funds amounted to more than 12 million yuan.Meanwhile, won one provincial-level teaching team in Electrical Engineering, one first prize for provincial-level outstanding teaching achievements, three provincial-level educational research projects, and four provincial-level first-class courses.

The school is the implementation unit of the Electric Engineering and Automation (New Energy Direction) project of the strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent training plan for general higher education institutions in Hubei Province. The school is well-equipped with experimental facilities and has built multiple experimental training platforms such as Hubei Province's Jointly-built Automatic Guided Equipment R&D Center by University-Enterprise, Hubei Provincial Engineering Laboratory of Intelligent Logistics Conveying Equipment, Hubei Province Internship and Practical Training Base, Electrical and Electronic Basic Laboratory, Microcontroller Principles and Applications Laboratory, Automatic Control Laboratory, Sensor Detection and Control Laboratory, Industrial Networked Control Laboratory (University-level Key Laboratory), Motion Control Comprehensive Laboratory, Power System Relay Protection Laboratory, Control System and Simulation Laboratory, Hubei Normal University-Rockwell Automation Laboratory, Metalworking Internship Training Room, New Energy Power Generation Laboratory, Railway Signaling Fundamentals Laboratory, Virtual Rail Transit Laboratory, Rail Transit Sandbox Simulation Laboratory, Engineering Training Center, etc.

Under the guidance of the Student-Centric work philosophy, the school has established undergraduate research teams to guide students in conducting scientific research. The team members have successfully published multiple academic papers and have been honored with the Hubei Province Outstanding Undergraduate Research Achievement Award. Through undergraduate research projects, the school has been fostering students' technological innovations, leading to the attainment of national patents. And the school encourages students to actively participate in social practices and various knowledge competitions, such as the “Challenge Cup National College Student Competition, the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, the National College Students “NXP Cup” Intelligent Car Competition, the Siemens Cup China Intelligent Challenge, and the “AB Cup” National College Students Automation System Application Contest. Over the past three years, the school has achieved an impressive employment rate of 93%, with a remarkable postgraduate enrollment rate of 20%. Multiple graduates have entered state-owned enterprises such as the State Grid and the Railway Bureau for work.
