Brief Introduction

Basic Information

The Foreign Languages College of Hubei Normal University, with its long history, excellent social reputation, and top-notch educational conditions, stands as one of the prestigious departments within the university. Its academic history can be traced back to the Foreign Languages Department of Huangshi Branch of Central China Normal University established in 1974. Currently, the college boasts a comprehensive organizational structure, including the English Department, Japanese Department, French Department, Public Foreign Languages Department, as well as the Foreign Language Research Institute, the British Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the Hubei Provincial Demonstration Center for English Language Learning in Colleges and Universities, the English Language Training and Research Center, and the Translation Research Center. The college offers four master's programs in Foreign Languages and Literatures, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Curriculum and Instruction (English), and Subject Teaching (English). It also provides four undergraduate programs in English, Japanese, Business English, and French. Additionally, it undertakes part of the language teaching for the double-degree program in law and English, as well as university foreign language education for non-English majors across the university. Notably, the English major has been approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, and both the English and Business English majors have been recognized as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites.

Curriculum Development

The college has achieved remarkable achievements in curriculum development. It boasts two national first-class undergraduate courses (Selected Readings in British Literature and Vocational English), one national curriculum ideological and political demonstration course (Selected Readings in British Literature), and one provincial first-class course (Practical English Phonetics). It also possesses two provincial high-quality resource-sharing courses (Theories of English Subject Teaching and Selected Readings in British Literature), one provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration course (Selected Readings in British Literature), and two provincial outstanding grassroots teaching organizations (Linguistics Teaching and Research Office, Literature and Translation Teaching and Research Office). At the university level, it has one excellent video open course (College English), one key discipline, one brand major, four outstanding young and middle-aged scientific and technological innovation teams, and two outstanding teaching teams. Additionally, it offers seven university-level excellent courses and quality courses, as well as two university-level online courses. The college has also jointly established dual-degree characteristic classes with the School of Computer Science and the School of Law.

Faculty

The college boasts a strong faculty team of nearly 120 staff members. Among them, there are 8 professors, 24 associate professors, and 25 master's supervisors. Among the full-time teachers, 20 hold doctorates (including those currently enrolled).

Scientific Research

In recent years, the faculty members of the college have achieved significant results in scientific research. They have hosted and participated in numerous national and provincial scientific research projects, with a total research funding of nearly 7 million yuan. They have published hundreds of papers in domestic professional core journals such as Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Modern Foreign Languages, Foreign Language World, and others. They have also published dozens of monographs (including textbooks) in national-level publishers. These achievements not only demonstrate the academic strength of the college's faculty but also lay a solid foundation for the college's scientific research development.
