From October 21 to 24, 2024, Ulster University held a three-day Go Global Week at the Coleraine campus, Londonderry campus, and Belfast campus. The Confucius Institute for Northern Ireland at Ulster University (CINIUU) participated in the whole event. Dr. Liu Xingchi, Chinese Co-director of CINIUU led his fellow team co-organized and attended the event and was warmly welcomed by Ulster University and students across Northern Ireland, UK.
This activity mainly consisted of two separate parts. Section 1 was a fabulous show of traditional Chinese drama. The second part was a workshop concerning Chinese culture. Moreover, the curriculum introduction to the Chinese language and Chinese culture offered By CINIUU was integrated into the activity. In this event, the characteristic dance Big sleeve prevailed in the Han and Tang Dynasties of ancient China gained a rebirth, and impressed the audience with the classic and graceful dancing posture and exquisite costumes. The long kite song Jasmine Fragrance ushered the audience into the peaceful and esthetic world of Chinese folk music. The opera piece Long Water Sleeve caught the attendee’s eye with the graceful and moving art of Beijing Opera. The tense performance of Changing Face showed the unique art form of Chinese opera and won bursts of applause. The Chinese traditional culture workshop was undoubtedly another highlight, where students experienced traditional skills such as tea ceremony, shuttlecock kicking, duet spinning handkerchief, and Chinese knot, and immerse themselves in China's long cultural heritage.
In addition, the wonderful performance also amazed the audience. The event featured 10 theatrical performances and attracted more than 8,000 people to engage in workshop experiences.
